The UWI Open Scholarship is open to high school students, community and state college graduates and first-year students of The UWI. 

 

Scholarships are available for study at any of The UWI’s four campuses. Applications are open until April 30.

LET’S MAKE IT WORK!

This World Breastfeeding Week, WABA calls for concerted global action to support women to combine breastfeeding and work. Whether a woman is working in the formal, non-formal or home setting, it is necessary that she is empowered in claiming her and her baby’s right to breastfeed.

 

​​World Heart Day... 

World Heart Day was founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year. It is an annual event which takes place on 29 September every year. Each year’s celebrations have a different theme, reflecting key issues and topics relating to heart health. This year our theme is creating heart-healthy environments.

 

​​World Food Day... 

FAO celebrates World Food Day each year on 16 October, the day on which the Organization was founded in 1945. The 2015 World Food Day theme is “Social Protection and agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty.” Social Protection has been chosen as the theme of this year’s World Food Day (WFD) to highlight its importance in reducing rural poverty and granting access to food or means to buy food.

 

Caribbean Wellness Day...

The CARICOM Heads of Summit on Chronic Diseases in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, September 2007, established Caribbean Wellness Day. Caribbean Wellness Day is observed every year on the second Saturday of September. Inaugurated in 2008, Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) is an annual event which provides an opportunity to increase the awareness of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) burden in the Caribbean; mobilise and strengthen public, private, and civil society partnerships for NCDs; promote multi-country, multi-sectoral activities in support of wellness; and showcase national and community level activities to promote healthy living and encourage residents to develop good health practices. 2015 the focus will be on the elderly "Improving the quality of life of the Region's ageing population".

 

​​Global Handwashing Day... 

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

 

Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.

 

​​World Diabetes Day... 

November 14 is World Diabetes Day (WDD). Led by the International Diabetes Federation, WDD unites the global diabetes community to produce a powerful voice for diabetes awareness and advocacy. WDD is a year-long campaign to reflect the realities of dealing with a chronic condition.

 

​​World AIDS Day... 

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.
